We’ve been down this road before, back when I used to dig up old newspaper promotions because I couldn’t think of any other stuff to fill the site with and justify an update. I ran out of ideas again, so I thought I’d get a little festive this evening. Nowadays you can tell what’s getting its price severed before it even goes on sale. You know if a product is doomed commercially from the second it’s leaked half a year ahead of release. Nothing stings like paying full price, then seeing it get chopped down twice a couple of weeks later, and with the post-Christmas sales ready to start ahead of Boxing Day, it seems like a good excuse to look at old ads for sales at U.S. sporting goods stores from winters long gone. There were a lot of gems getting some reductions to clear them from the shelves, rather than the identikit mess of lifestyle blandness we’re supposed to care about now. Jordan KOs for $17.75 seemed like a good deal, as did SL80s for $40. I’d probably be down for some slightly blemished AM90s too of we’re time-travelling for bargains. Might be worth picking up some cheap, boring shoes from Fred Meyer just to get a commemorative Christmas mug.
